Mother-of-Pearl Series
While inherently solid and protective, mother-of-pearl is also shifting and unstable in light. Its name itself evokes a feminine, generative origin. This material is a metaphor for female resilience and adaptability — the capacity to remain fluid and multifaceted, resisting imposed expectations: not diminishing oneself or becoming quieter when told to, not carrying unnecessary emotional labor, not internalizing external judgments, and maintaining autonomy over one’s own path. It is about being a source of poetry, humor, and courage. The watercolors are complemented by bead embroidery — a traditionally feminine craft, but in this case it contains the statements that speak against the absurd expectations placed upon women.
