Safe space Series
Berliner for three years, David Bowie once said: “Berlin was the first time in years that I had felt a joy of life and a great feeling of release and healing”. Like for Bowie, for many people of different nations and cultures Berlin became a Safe Space. It’s a place where you can be whatever you want, to hide in a crowd or to stand out loudly. It’s a city which is as diverse and amazing as space and universe itself.
There is a form of japanese short poetry which is similar to haiku in construction but has a totally different purpose. If haiku focuses on the beauty of nature, Senryū is the poetry that tells a story and a human is in the center of it. This exhibition is a book of visual poetry, the collection of Senryū about people of Berlin and its free spirit.
I moved to Berlin two years ago and from the first moment this city wrapped its arms around me. I felt home immediately, though I’ve never been to Berlin before and my knowledge of German was close to zero. With this series of watercolors I want to capture the sense of belonging I experience here every day.
